Effective Date: October 27, 2026
Wayfinder Bootfitters (“Wayfinder,” “we,” “us”) is operated by Indoor Cat Boot Works, Inc. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information when you use wayfinderboots.com, including our boot- and shoe-fitting quiz, foot scanning, and recommendation services (together, the “Services”).
The short version: we collect your account details, your quiz answers, and a small set of foot measurements taken from a 3D scan of your feet. We use them for one thing: matching you with ski boots and trail running shoes that fit. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. Email address, password (stored in hashed form), and name if you provide it (including via Google or Apple sign-in).
Fit quiz responses. Your answers about skiing or running experience, preferences, and fit priorities.
Foot scan measurements. When you scan your feet (required for ski boot recommendations, optional for trail running shoes), we receive and store key fit measurements derived from the scan (such as foot length, width, instep height, and arch profile), along with a scan reference ID. The scan itself is captured directly by our scanning partner, Volumental (see Section 3). We use these measurements only to size and match footwear; we do not use them to identify you.
Usage information. Standard analytics data (IP address, device and browser type, pages visited) collected via Google Analytics using cookies and similar technologies.
We do not collect payment information; purchases happen on retailers’ own sites (Section 5).
2. How We Use Your Information
- To generate and save your personalized boot and shoe recommendations, including through our automated recommendation engine (Section 8);
- To operate your account so you can return to your results anytime;
- To send occasional product updates and service emails, including a fit-check email about a week after you click through to a retailer from your results (every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link; account and transactional emails may continue after you unsubscribe);
- If you ask us to email you a link to finish your foot scan later, we use your email address only to send that link and up to two reminders (about 2 and 7 days later), which stop as soon as you complete a scan or unsubscribe; we delete the request after 30 days, or sooner if you delete your account.
- To improve the Services, understand usage, and keep the Services secure;
- To comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use.
3. Our Scanning Partner, Volumental
Foot scanning on our site is provided by Volumental AB, an independent company headquartered in Sweden. When you use the scan tool, your scan, including scan imagery and the resulting measurements, is collected directly by Volumental, and Volumental is responsible for that data under its own privacy policy: Volumental Privacy Policy.
Two things to know:
- Volumental maintains your scan as a “Fit Profile.” If you have scanned before with Volumental (on our site or through another retailer that uses Volumental), Volumental may recognize you by your scan reference or email and reuse your existing Fit Profile.
- What we receive is limited. Wayfinder receives and stores only the derived fit measurements and scan reference described in Section 1, not your scan imagery.
We ask for your consent before each first scan. Ski boot recommendations need a foot scan; trail running shoe recommendations can come from the quiz alone. Volumental is not permitted to use data collected on our site to target our customers with marketing. We also provide Volumental limited access to our website analytics to support and improve the scanning service.
4. How We Disclose Information
We do not sell personal information, we do not disclose it for targeted advertising, and we have not done either in the preceding 12 months. We disclose personal information only:
- To service providers that host and operate the Services on our behalf (website hosting, email delivery, Google Analytics), under contracts limiting their use of your data to providing those services;
- To Volumental as described in Section 3;
- When required by law, to comply with legal process or protect our rights and users’ safety;
- In a business transfer (merger, acquisition, or sale of assets), in which case this Policy continues to apply to previously collected data unless you are notified otherwise.
5. Retailer Links
Our recommendations link to external retailers (Backcountry). Some are affiliate links; we may earn a commission on purchases at no cost to you. When you click through, the retailer’s own privacy policy governs; we do not send retailers your personal information.
Our retailer links carry a short reference code that tells us which of your recommendations a click came from. The code does not contain your name, email address, or scan measurements, and on its own it does not identify you to the retailer or our affiliate network. We match it to your account on our side only, so we can follow up by email after you click (for example, to help you check the fit of boots you may have ordered). You can stop these emails with the unsubscribe link in any of them.
6. Data Retention
We keep your account information, quiz responses, and scan-derived measurements for as long as your account is active, so your recommendations remain available whenever you return.
- If you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we delete it within 30 days (except where law requires longer retention).
- If your account is inactive for 3 years, we will email you a notice and then delete or anonymize your data.
- Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics’ standard retention settings.
Deleting your Wayfinder account does not delete data held by Volumental; Section 3 explains how to reach them.
7. Your Privacy Rights
Wherever you live in the United States, you may:
- Access / know: confirm whether we process your personal information and get a copy;
- Correct: fix inaccurate information;
- Delete: have us delete your personal information;
- Portability: receive your data in a portable format;
- Opt out: of any sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We don’t do any of these, so there is nothing to opt out of, but the right is yours if that ever changes.
How to exercise these rights: email info@wayfinderboots.com. We will verify your identity (typically by confirming control of your account email) and respond within 45 days, extendable once by 45 days with notice. You may use an authorized agent with proof of authorization.
Appeals: if we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision; we will respond within 60 days. If we deny your appeal, you may contact your state Attorney General.
Withdrawing consent: where we rely on your consent (such as scan consent), you may withdraw it at any time by emailing info@wayfinderboots.com, and we will stop the related processing within 45 days. Withdrawal doesn’t affect processing that already occurred.
We will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
8. Automated Recommendations
Our recommendation engine matches your quiz answers and fit measurements against footwear specifications to score and rank options. It affects only which products we suggest; it makes no decisions with legal or similar significant effects. You can ask us about the logic behind your recommendations at any time.
9. Children and Teens
The Services are for users 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16; if we learn we have, we will delete it, and parents or guardians can contact us at the address below. We do not sell any user’s personal information or engage in targeted advertising toward any user, including anyone under 18.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
11. International Users
The Services are operated from the United States and your information is processed here. Scan data collected by Volumental may be processed in Sweden under Volumental’s privacy policy.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy. For material changes, we will give prominent notice (by email or a site banner) before the changes take effect, and we will not use previously collected information in materially new ways without your consent. The Effective Date above always reflects the current version.
